The CMRI Cock and Bull Story

CMRI History

True Catholics in the remnant Church are able to clearly discern the inventions of the multitude of Sedevacantists and Traditionalists who undertake their study without a sincere desire for the truth; but rather, look for every way they can to defend their schismatic and heretical positions.

These “theologians”—who purport to be priests and bishops but are not more than laymen in clerical garb—have decided what they want and have then carefully presented that information which justifies their stance. Some may feel this is a strong indictment, but we say it is still woefully inadequate to describe the little-known insidious nature of the adversary in the fledging CMRI group who rages against God in these wicked times.

The CMRI is an upstart organization founded by one Francis Schuckardt who was not even validly consecrated because the jurisdictional power needed to convey valid tonsure was lacking, and no pope existed at that time to supply for it. Shuckardt was the founding Father of Mt. St. Mary’s in Spokane, Washington, which was later handed over to the CMRI. Some have claimed he considered himself the true pope, but the scandals involving drugs, sex and large amounts of money made the headlines and led to his demise. He was considered by many to have been a cult leader.

“Bishop” Peter Martin Ngo-dinh-Thuc signed Vatican 2 documents; this is a public fact. At that point he suffered the consequences of Can. 1258, lost all jurisdiction according to the censures for heresy and schism and incurred infamy of law. Thuc never officially left the Novus Ordo church, hearing confessions and assisting at the Novus Ordo Missae up to the time he issued his declaration and consecrated des Lauriers. Later, in a scandalous affair, Thuc “consecrated” “Bishop” Moises Carmona who carried on the invalid and illicit lineage by “consecrate the CMRI’s current President, Mark Pivarunas.

Regardless of Thuc’s feigned denouncement of the Novus Ordo and supposed founding of sedevacantism, in the end he returned to his old stomping grounds and, according to all reports, died an apostate. That is the brief lurid story of the founding of the CMRI Group, incorporated to throw off otherwise good men and women who were to be converted to the true Catholic Church.

CMRI Propaganda

The men falsely ordained and consecrated in the CMRI under Thuc have one goal in mind: persuade others that their sacraments are both necessary and valid. They employ a wide battery of sources to support their case; but theirs is a research based on cunning and deception. For starters, it is heretical. We ask the reader; what heretical position can seriously be supported by objective investigation or research? Instead, their goal is to bend the minds of their readers to their own indefensible, duplicitous and heretical position.

They ignore information that does not support their position. They suppress teachings that do not conform to their point of view; and it is with great vigor they set out on a mission to propagandize good-willed people. The result has been a breach of faith, another good reason why the comparison to the Western Schism ultimately fails, which we will see below. Catholics during the Schism, despite the errors circling about them concerning the nature of the papacy, tenaciously held onto the doctrine. These men and their followers do not.

CMRI Denial of the Dependency of Apostolicity on Jurisdiction

On Facebook, one of their seminarian protégés made the following glaringly false statement in an attempt to justify how the CMRI can operate without a living pope. In rebutting the point that a papal mandate is required for consecrations of their “bishops,” per canon 1013, he wrote, “Apostolic Succession is not dependent upon the Holy Pontiff.”

But apostolic succession is dependent on jurisdiction; and jurisdiction is dependent on the Holy Pontiff. Therefore, apostolic succession is dependent upon the Holy Pontiff. The authoritative theological interpretations below clearly prove this out.

For how else could a bishop who was not elected or appointed according to the canonical rules in force at the time, who never received the fullness of spiritual power that the Pope must possess, possibly be considered to have acquired apostolic succession? The simple answer is that he cannot.

In 1900 Rev. Thomas Cox wrote in his The Pillar and Ground of Truth that “Even if valid orders exist, where jurisdiction is lacking there is no real apostolicity. Schism, as well as heresy, destroys apostolic succession.”

Men without papal jurisdiction acting as bishops are not in communion with the Church, and we call such men schismatics. Again, we read in the sound interpretations of theological writings how apostolicity most certainly is dependent upon the Holy Pontiff.

“A CHRISTIAN SOCIETY WHOSE BISHOPS GO BACK TO THE APOSTLES ONLY THROUGH THE POWER OF ORDER, AND NOT ALSO THROUGH THE POWER OF JURISDICTION, CANNOT CLAIM TO BE APOSTOLIC, AND CONSEQUENTLY CANNOT BE THE CHURCH OF CHRIST…That an Apostolic succession is essential for the discernment of the true Church the Fathers unanimously teach…Jurisdiction itself dwells at all times in the heads of the Church, and is always transmitted according to the canonical rules in force at the time. Consequently, whosoever, therefore, has not received jurisdiction according to those rules…does not possess it, and although he may have received Episcopal consecration HE DOES NOT BELONG TO THE ECCLESIASTICAL HIERARCHY. Having neither see nor subjects, it is evident that HE CANNOT BE ONE OF THE HEADS OF THE CHURCH, AND HAS NO CLAIM TO APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION.” Revs. Devivier and Sasia, Christian Apologetics, Vol l.

It is very good we can note that the two reverends say that jurisdiction is “ALWAYS TRANSMITED” according to the canonical rules in force at the time; because the ones in force now are the ones that were in force before our last pope died, and those rules DO NOT PERMIT the consecrations of bishops during an interregnum. But that is not what the CMRI believes they must live up to. They and their laymen theologians and freshmen seminarians sound well-versed, but the motives that drive them are more like a curse.

The CMRI is the Enemy’s Last Hope

This is how deceiving the CMRI can be, that even their members are made to believe the Pope is not necessary for the “bishops” to possess the authority that these men openly and arrogantly claim for themselves. The only thing Traditional “Catholics” do when they leave the Novus Ordo — as children or teens, to become Traditionalists — is to exchange one non-Catholic sect for another.

The CMRI falls into the category of the final frontier that must be properly navigated and safely crossed for those intent of saving their soul. They properly and altogether reject the men who have usurped the Chair of Peter, but they are the enemies last swing at keeping the elect in line for their false masses, and consequently dutifully marching down the road to hell.
