The Catholic hierarchy will abandon Christ

1886, Pope Leo XIII: “These most crafty enemies [the devils] have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.”

And the ante-Nicene Fathers taught in their commentary on Apoc. 6: 14: “…the Church shall be taken away;” and also, on Apoc 15: 1: “…when the Church shall have gone out of the midst.” Only at this time will the Church seem to have disappeared; to be overcome by the enemy. Yet in reality she can never be overcome as we well know, and we believe with the common opinion of theologians and holy people that She will rise again more gloriously than before. This is one of the most onerous of the false miracles performed by Antichrist; that the Church as she always existed should seem to have been destroyed. Yet it is not whether the Church remains alive and visible, but how. It is otherwise than many believe.

“The Marian Church remains inviolable and indestructible till the very end of time, for the gates of hell shall not prevail against HER [Mother of Christ and her spouse, the Holy Ghost, united to His Mystical Body, the Church]. God will intervene to sustain her, both with angelic assistance and divine judgments on the Satanic hordes. In her special place prepared by God [in the wilderness] Satan will not enter, nor shall he overcome her…In the greatest sufferings, the Mother of Christ is most fruitful in Christ. It was in the wilderness that Israel as a nation first became the people of God, (Ex. 19: 6). Here in the wilderness, perhaps, Israel shall be readmitted to the people of God and born anew in Christ, to be sustained in life miraculously by God,” (Bernard J. Le Frois, S.V.D., in his “The Woman Clothed with the Sun,” 1954).

For always, as Fr. Le Frois says above, She will be with the Virgin Mary and the Holy Ghost, as foretold by St. John in his Apocalypse, comprising the Mystical Body. This was foreshadowed by Jesus turning over the care of His Mother to St. John on Calvary. It was the Beloved Disciple who would chronicle Our Lady’s flight to the desert, accompanied by the Holy Ghost. Remnant Catholics today are left to cling blindly to the very essence of faith itself; the belief in things unseen, spoken of by St. Paul. Christ consoles them, however, with the words spoken to the apostle St. Thomas the Doubter, who He told following His Resurrection: “Because thou hast seen me Thomas, thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not seen and have believed,” (John 20:29).

Pope St. Pius X: “… there is good reason to fear lest this great perversity may be as it were a foretaste, and perhaps the beginning of those evils which are reserved for the last days.

If we mention La Salette at all, it is because so many have used its most controversial phrase, “Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of Antichrist” to condemn it as false. This is true especially of those supporting the usurpers reigning since the death of Pope Pius XII or those conclavist “popes’ elected by errant Sedevacantists. If we dissect this phrase it soon becomes apparent that it is in no way contradictory of Catholic dogma, as many pretend. The Cardinal Manning work mentioned above is proof of this. By “Rome” losing the faith is meant primarily the Cardinals with episcopal sees in Rome, but also the people of Rome themselves. Rome cannot here be interpreted as the Holy See itself. “The seat of Antichrist” tells us that a man most probably will usurp the papal see itself. This only follows the definition of antichrist given in the Catholic Encyclopedia — a king reigning during an interregnum.

Even Pope Pius XII said that, “History gives clear evidence of one thing: the gates of Hell will not prevail,” (Matt. 16: 18). But there is some evidence on the other side too; the gates of hell have had partial successes,” (“Preaching the Word of God,” address given during the Sixth National Week on New Pastoral Methods, Sept. 14, 1956). In an allocution to the cardinals given Dec. 4, 1943, he reminded Catholics that it is true “the Church’s indefectibility is visible, inasmuch as it is demonstrable;” and that this indefectibility evidenced from the past is “the gauge of Her future.” Nevertheless, he cautions, “But if this indefectibility is a matter of experience, it remains, nonetheless, a mystery (emph. the Pope’s); for it cannot be explained naturally, but only by reason of the fact, which is known to us by divine revelation, that Christ who founded the Church is with Her in every trial until the end of the world.” Now if the pope was supposed to exist till the end of time, why did Pius XII not indicate this? And if indefectibility is a mystery, doesn’t this leave some room for its interpretation that we mere mortals cannot fathom?

Pope Pius XII. “We believe that the present hour is a dread phase of the events told by Christ. It seems that darkness is about to fall on the world. Humanity is in the grip of a supreme crisis. I am worried by the Blessed Virgin’s messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a Divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith, in Her liturgy, Her theology and Her soul. … I hear all around me innovators who wish to dismantle the Sacred Chapel, destroy the universal flame of the true Faith of the Church, reject Her ornaments and make Her feel remorse for Her historical past…In our churches, Christians will search in vain for the red lamp where God awaits them. Like Mary Magdalene, weeping before the empty tomb, they will ask, ‘Where have they taken Him?’”

St. Nicholas von Flue (15th century) “The Church will be punished because the majority of Her members, high and low, will become so perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until She will at last seem to be extinguished, and the succession of Peter and the other Apostles to have expired. But, after this, She will be victoriously exalted in the sight of all doubters.”

Antichrist, who the Catholic Encyclopedia describes as “a king reigning [over Vatican City, since the popes rule their own city] during an interregnum,” (!). The Pope indicates in his preamble why he needs to clarify this sense of Scripture: because Protestants and others have corrupted it with “cunning inventions,” just as Traditionalists are corrupting it today. The germ of heresy can be presumed to exist even when it cannot be so proven, precisely because our Lord Jesus Christ promised unconditionally that Peter’s faith would never fail; and not even a shadow of a doubt could ever be admitted where this Divine promise is concerned.

St. John Bosco (19th century) “There will be an Ecumenical Council in the next century, after which there will be chaos in the Church.” [1862 Prediction] Venerable Anna Katarina Emmerick (1774 – 9 February 1824) “I saw what I believe to be nearly all the bishops of the world, but only a small number were perfectly sound…Then I saw that everything that pertained to Protestantism was gradually gaining the upper hand, and the Catholic religion fell into complete decadence…”

“The Secret of Melanie and the Actual Crisis” by Abbot Combe, 1906:“The Church will be eclipsed. At first, we will not know which is the true pope. Then secondly, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will cease to be offered in churches and houses; it will be such that, for a time, there will not be public services any more. But I see that the Holy Sacrifice has not really ceased: it will be offered in barns, in alcoves, in caves, and underground.” [Note: Concerning La Salette, Pope St. Pius X wrote, in his encyclical Pascendi: “These apparitions or revelations have neither been approved nor condemned by the Holy See, which has simply allowed them to be believed on purely human faith, in the traditions which they relate, corroborated by testimony and documents worthy of credence. Anyone who follows this rule has no cause to fear.”]

Our Lady of Good Success. In the early 17th century, a Conceptionist nun in Ecuador, Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres (1563–1635), was the recipient of various apparitions from the Mother of God, including many prophecies concerning the 20th century. The fact that these prophecies date back 400 years makes them especially noteworthy.

Mother Mariana’s incorrupt body was discovered in 1906 and can still be seen today. “Thus I make it known to you that from the end of the 19th century and shortly after the middle of the 20th century… It will be difficult to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, and also that of Confirmation… The Catholic spirit will rapidly decay; the precious light of the Faith will gradually be extinguished…”

Pope St. Pius X warned the Church of this in 1907: “[T]hey put into operation their designs for Her [the Church’s] undoing, not from without but from within. Hence, the danger is present almost in the very veins and heart of the Church, whose injury is the more certain from the very fact that their knowledge of Her is more intimate. Moreover, they lay the ax not to the branches and shoots, but to the very root, that is, to the faith and its deepest fibers.” – Pascendi Dominici Gregis

Herman Bernard Kramer in 1956: “However, the text demands a more specific application to the definite future event to which the prophecy obviously points, and in which the Church suffers the keenest pangs passing at that time through the greatest crisis of her whole life….As a dragon, Satan through the evil world-powers of that time will enter the Church, interfere with her liberty and perhaps by stealthy suggestions having long before directed the choosing of candidates for the episcopate will now endeavor by threats of force to hinder the election of the worthiest candidate for the papacy.”

The Book of Destiny [TAN Books Reprint, 1975], pp. 277-279) In 1921, Fr. E. Sylvester Berry (1879-1954) in The Apocalypse of St. John “The Papacy will be Attacked by all the Powers of Hell… the Church will suffer great Trials … in securing a Successor upon the Throne of Peter… The Church [will be] deprived of her Chief Pastor…”

The Catholic Encyclopedia article on the anti-Christ mentions that St. Bernard and others believed that the only way Anti-Christ could deceive “if it were possible, even the elect”(Math. 24:24) is by becoming an Anti-Pope (‘Popes of the Second Vatican Council’, Dr. James Wardner, p.21)

Father E. Sylvester Berry, “Satan will first attempt to destroy the power of the Papacy and bring about the downfall of the Church through heresies, schisms and persecutions that must surely follow . . . he will raise up Antichrist and his prophet to lead the faithful into error and destroy those who remain steadfast . . . . . . The Church, the faithful spouse of Jesus Christ, is represented as a woman clothed in the glory of divine grace . . . ”

(Anne Catherine Emmerich) “Then I saw the connection between the two Popes and the two temples. I am sorry that I have forgotten the numbers, but I was shown how weak the one had been in adherents and human support, but how strong in courage to overturn so many gods (I knew the number) and to unite so many different forms of worship into one; and, on the contrary, how strong in numbers and yet how irresolute in action was the other since, in authorizing the erection of false temples, he had allowed the only true God, the only true religion to be lost among so many false gods and false religions. The Prophecies of Blessed Anna-Katarina Emmerick

Apparition of Our Lady of La Salette Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the antichrist… all the universe will be struck with terror, and many will let themselves be misled. The Church will be eclipsed… Melanie (the visionary) stated that Our Lady said the Church will be “eclipsed” in this two-fold sense: 1) “that one will not know which is the true Pope”; 2) “for a time, the holy Sacrifice will cease to be offered (validly) in churches.”

[In his interpretation of the Apocalypse, Fr. Berry writes:  “It is a matter of history that the most disastrous periods for the Church were times when the Papal throne was vacant, or when anti-popes contended with the legitimate head of the Church. Thus also shall it be in those evil days to come.”
